Its name<br \/>\nhonors Idris I, grandson of Muhammad and the founder of the dynasty<br \/>\nIdr\u00c3sita. The religious status of the city led to the mid-twentieth century<br \/>\nwas closed to non-Muslims. Currently the only place forbidden is the<br \/>\nmausoleum of Moulay Idris.
